Sweet Spot #21: Champagne Taste on a Beer Budget

Posted on February 16, 2011 in Fun, The Sweet Spot

I, like most people, am guilty of what some call “champagne taste on a beer budget” or “eyes bigger than her stomach” or “expensive” or simply “living beyond her means”. It’s a heavy load to bear, especially without help from trust funds or doctor salaries. Lately, with the help of a growing number of discount shopping sites, made popular by Groupon, shopping has become much more accessible, affordable, easier and less stressful than outlets and Ross. No more buying generic or fake to get the deal; we want the real deal, the name brand! You may have gotten an invite from a savvy friend from one of these sites, or seen an ad for them on a fashion blog, but check out my more comprehensive list of shopping sites to have more fun than the proverbial coupon clipping you saw your mom do. My 80% off Ferragamo wallet just got fatter!

These sites are members-only sites that offer private, limited-time sale events on the world’s most notable brands. Each day, members receive an email invitation to the newest sale events or coupons on merchandise for men, women, kids, lifestyle items and more – some at prices up to 80% off retail. The sites I have listed are free to join and everyone is welcome.

P.S. Thank you to my Facebook Friends for helping me with this list!

Groupon and Gilt Groupe are my faves. I wish I had gone onto Rue La la sooner because they just had a fantastic sale on Ray Ban sunglasses that I missed!! I could kick myself! :(

Great blog! Do you have any tips for aspiring writers? I’m planning to start
my own website soon but I’m a little lost on everything. Would you advise starting with a free platform like
Wordpress or go for a paid option? There are so many options out there that
I’m completely confused .. Any ideas? Many thanks!
