Infographic: 6 Fall Outreach Ideas to Plan Now + 15% Off Printing

Recently updated on January 20th, 2018 at 01:47 am

Once the heat of summer begins to fade, the leaves begin to change, and pumpkin-scented everything fills the air, it’s time for churches to focus attention on a new season and brainstorm their best fall outreach ideas.

As a pastor, I know what it’s like to look around your church this time and wonder:

“Where did everyone go?!”

Either the apocalypse happened, Jesus came back and didn’t let you know, or, you guessed it – it’s summertime. The good news? People have not forgotten you, they just need a gentle reminder to return and the best way to remind people is to meet them where they already are.

How to Grow Your Church this Fall

As people look to reconnect, it’s a natural time for you to explore your community, find out where people are gathering, and ask yourself

Where can we add value this fall?

I know what you’re thinking. “There’s not enough time.” “We don’t have the budget. “We don’t have enough people.” “We don’t have any outreach ideas!”

But as a pastor with a passion for engaging my community and members in outreach, and years of experience doing so, I can assure you that you don’t need to be a creative mastermind to pull off a memorable outreach event. You don’t even need a ton of money or time.

To make a real impact, all you need is a desire to add value wherever you go, and there are plenty opportunities to do so. Go around your city or town, and observe. What would make people’s lives easier? What could you do to bring someone a little joy? What would make people really happy?

Answer these questions and half your work is done. Then, with a little planning and solid volunteers, you can go into the community and do your work. To help get you started, I’ve put together an infographic with six outreach ideas you can start today. These events can be found in most cities and towns, and having done each over the years, I can say from experience they are easy to plan, inexpensive to execute, and 100% worth your time.

If you’re not sure how or when to use each product or want to know how to get more use out of one, here are some quick product use tips and guidelines:

Before the event

Before your event is the time to figure out logistics and plan. Book the venue, secure needed equipment, materials, and talent, mobilize volunteers and print promotional items you want to use during the actual event or to spread the word in advance. Though most of your fall outreach events will take place where people are already gathering, you may want church members to attend some as well. In other cases, you’ll want to spread the word to the community with postcard invites or tickets.

During the event

During the event, your focus is on adding value, engaging the community, and extending invitations. From branded banners that promote your church as an “event sponsor” to custom brochures on special programs you offer at your church, you’ll want an array of printed material on hand to help make a memorable impression. Don’t forget that most of these items can double as follow up invitations along with rounded business cards and postcards, too.

After the event

After the event, it’s time to follow up with people you met and thank those who made your outreach possible. From event partners to volunteers, send thank you notes using custom greeting cards or branded letterhead and envelopes to anyone who assisted. Follow up as needed with mailed items like brochures, magnet calendars, and postcards to stay top of mind – whether by simply sharing information or inviting them to an event at your church. It’s also a good idea to include business card-sized invites in your mailings – these are great to keep on hand as a personal reminder and easy for people to share with friends.
