Saturday, October 22, 2011 9:00AM to 6:00PM
on the campus of the University of Southern California (USC)
Hosted by the Foundation for Second Chances, founded by Melissa Wyatt in December 2004
She now serves as Executive Director overseeing Afterschool Programs, Mentorship, Community Service, Reading Literacy, Health Awareness Programming and more.
The purpose of the Second Chances Youth Summit is to inspire 9th-12th grade youth in Los Angeles to develop a sense of community, and to create a space for such youth to actively plan and have a role in determining their futures.
During the summit, attendees participate in workshop sessions that explore issues that directly affect them such as a college/career fair, health/nutrition/fitness education, and discussions that are geared towards civic and service engagement.
The ultimate goal is to give participants a sense of belonging to a larger community. By giving 9th-12th grade youth a safe space to dialogue and feel supported, it is the foundation’s hope that youth enjoy the opportunity to gather all the information they need to prepare themselves for life.
