Henceforth Press is owned and operated by the husband-and-wife team of Chris and Leah Clark. Chris, who grew up in Tennessee, is a painter, illustrator and graphic designer. After college, he migrated west to work for Microsoft, Drugstore.com and Eddie Bauer. Leah, who was raised in northern California and graduated from Reed College, has worked as a travel writer and editor and newsletter editor/publisher.
Henceforth Press was born out of their combined passion for words and design, and their mutual desire to meld work, life, creativity, connection and commerce in a meaningful way.
The Clarks shop is equipped with a Vandercook SP20 flatbed cylinder press and a treadle-operated Challenge Gordon platen jobber. They have a growing collection of wood and metal type. Photopolymer plates of original illustrations are often created to bring digital composition to the letterpress. All electronic production and prepress work is done on a Macintosh using Quark XPress, Photoshop and Illustrator.
