As a graphic designer, I am always trying to find the balance between my creativity and the strict guidelines that Print Service Providers (PSPs) require. Basically, I do not want to spend a lot of time on creating the perfect printed piece for my client, and then have to compromise the design so that it can be printed.
1. Don’t Forget Bleeds
When designs are printed they are usually printed on large sheets and then cut. The problem is, cutting is never exact so the edges of your design can end up with errors if the color and images are too close or don’t (bleed) over the edge.
When you start to design a printed publication, it is always important to have in mind what the final product will look like in your customer’s hands. An essential element of that design is the folding or finishing. What are the factors that one must consider when preparing a printed product that will need to be folded?
