Why market on Easter? Easter Sunday is one of the most important events of the year. For many people, Easter holds more significance than Christmas, or any other religious holiday. Even outside of Christian communities, the imagery of painted eggs and bunny rabbits looms large every time the date comes around.
Easter is one of the best times to give your business or nonprofit that extra push it might need to reach out to more people and to cultivate more solid relationships.
Here are just a few ideas for Easter advertising that could really make a huge difference.
1.) Hold an event.
If you have the resources to spare, hosting an annual or even a one-off Easter event is a great way to create positive, memorable experiences that could be tied to your brand. Whether you’re hosting an Easter Egg hunt or another celebration of the season, hosting an event is a great way to get noticed.
If you do go this route, make sure to position your banners where the people you need to reach could actually see them!
2.) Sponsor an event.
Not everyone has the resources to host an entire event, but most of us can spare a few dollars or at least a little effort to help support one. Special events are commonplace around Easter. There are always deserving charities and enterprises that need your help. Many of them would also be more than grateful to give you a mention, or even help you distribute promotional materials or goodie bags.
3.) Give in to the spirit of the season!
Authenticity is crucial to any brand, and people will get right away if you’re faking it, or just out to get something from them. To prove you are genuine, you’ve got to think beyond chocolate eggs and bunny rabbits. Easter is about new beginnings and renewal. A promotional campaign that reflects that will resonate with your audience more than a simple discount. Think about what message you are giving people when you hand them your flyers or door hangers.
4.) Plan your marketing early.
Hopefully, you’ll read this well before Easter Sunday. An early start is crucial not just so you can plan better, but so your audience is able to make a better connection between your promotions and the season. Plus, it is more time to set up your banners and hand out door hangers too.
5.) Give things a personal touch.
Try to address valued customers by their names, and see if you can actually add something personalized to Easter baskets, promomotions, or whatever else you might send out. Even something as simple as a handwritten note, or a business card, or even an email that shows you are actually familiar with your customers can go a long way.
6.) Hold an online contest.
While likely not as memorable as a real-world event, having an online contest is still a great way to stir up participation and name-recall for your brand. One major turn off of these contests for many marketers is the fact that participants lose all interest in the brand as soon as the contest wraps up.
This doesn’t have to be the case. You can use these contests as opportunities to develop customer relationships by sending goodie bags, or even postcards and catalogs to the participants who showed the most interest in your brand. This simple gesture not only greatly increases customer retention, but also creates a positive image of your brand.
7.) Give your customers something useful.
Why do people throw away some kinds of direct mail, but not others? The answer lies in how useful your promotional materials are to the recipient. Having a well-sorted mailing list is one thing, but if you don’t give your audience something they want, you’re not going to get much out of your promotional materials — no matter how targeted they are.
Relevant recipes, tips and tricks, exclusive interviews, magazine-type content, and quality photo spreads are just some of the things that make it far more likely for direct mail recipients to actually keep their promotional items. Easter-themed freebies such as bunny or painted egg door hangers can also work great if your audience gets them at the right time (see #4). Quality Easter-related content and goodies can be just the ticket to winning your way into your customers’ hearts and minds!
