5 Easy Ways to Spread Kindness for the Holidays!

Posted on December 10, 2010 in Fun

With the holiday season in full swing, it’s easy to get carried away in the hustle and bustle of shopping, decorating, and eating. But let’s not forget what the season is really all about –generosity. Nothing will warm you up quite like knowing you’ve touched the life of someone else. Not even that eggnog latte you just paid $3.75 for or was that just me.

So now that I’ve made you feel totally guilty for forgetting the true meaning of the season, let me help you out. Here are five easy things you can do to spread kindness, cheer, and joy!

  1. Donate to the Marine Toys for Tots Foundation.
Donate a $10-$15 toy and drop it off at hundreds of locations across the nation. Donation boxes can be found in department stores, restaurants and even local businesses. Monetary donations are also accepted online or through standard mail.
  2. Sign up to volunteer in your local community with VolunteerMatch.
For those out of the non-profit/philanthropy loop, VolunteerMatch is a popular site for those looking to give their time to deserving causes all across the U.S. There are opportunities all year long but there’s an ABUNDANCE during the winter months. Sign-up on your own or as part of a group!
  3. Consider giving Gifts That Give More™.
Gifts That Give More™ are virtual gifts available for purchase through the Greater Good Network. Want to send a child to school in Guatemala, feed a rescued infant chimpanzee for a week, or help fund Breast Cancer research? You can do all those things with just a small donation right here. Perfect for that do-gooder friend of yours or the person who has everything because who really needs another mug warmer.
  4. Host your own Red Kettle.
The Salvation Army has been collecting money in their famous Red Kettles since 1891. Two years ago they decided to launch an online version of this fundraiser and made it available for individuals to host their own virtual Red Kettle. Invite your friends, family, co-workers, and neighbors to join you!
  5. Send a holiday greeting card to anyone you care about!
Quite possibly the EASIEST thing you can do this holiday season is send a warm note to a friend or family member. Want to spread even more joy? Send a card or gift to one of the Featured Kids on the Make A Child Smile site.
So now that you’re chock full of ideas on how to be your best philanthropic self this holiday season…go out and spread some cheer!
